One-handed typing here, and it is 5 am.
One of the hardest parts if having a baby is the sleep deprivation. Ava was a really bad sleeper when she was a little baby, though she punctuated her nights with occasional 8-hour stretches just to torture you and show you she could do it. Alder started out a much better sleeper than Ava was at this early age, but over the last 3 months things seemed to be getting worse. Until 2 days ago, that is. Miraculously, he has pulled out two almost-7-hour stretches the last 2 nights. And tonight it was 6 hours. Three days in a row of good sleep is pretty incredible. It gives me hope that perhaps I will sleep 8 consecutive hours again in my life. It might still be several months, but it will happen. I've noticed good infant sleep comes and goes in waves. The good days are followed by a wave of (very) bad days in my experience, and then you get back to good. Those bad days (nights) are just sheer torture. Some nights I'm lucky to get 3 hours at a time, and the night will be punctuated by awake crying sessions up to 4 hours in length. Damn those nights are painful. Good thing the baby is cute.
