Doctor waiting lists

Is it a normal thing that doctors have long waits before they can see you? I'm not talking about in the waiting room, I'm talking about from when you call asking for an appointment to when the first appointment is actually available. Maybe it is just my luck, but lately I keep getting referred to doctors with huge waiting lists before appointments are available. Today the call was to a preferred podiatrist (to check out this foot cyst thing) and it was a 6-week wait. I've made several calls in the past to chiropractors that have 3 or 6-week waits. Um...that is just a wee little bit too long when you are in CRAZY EXCRUTIATING PAIN. My favorite chiropractor has this problem - he usually has a 3-week wait. But he is my favorite, so sometimes I will wait. He's a naturopath too, so appointments are really worth double. Anyway, I'm not up for a 6-week wait for this foot cyst thing, so I'm off to #2 preferred podiatrist next Monday.
