Doula meeting

Night before last I attended our monthly doula meeting here, and it was a really great night. We alternate locations for the meetings, and this time it was at our hospital in one of the L&D rooms. We always extend the invitation to the L&D nurses, CNMs, and OBs, but have had few attend before (and no OBs). This time we had an L&D nurse (who is also a doula), a homebirth midwife and her assistant, a CNM, and an OB! It was awesome! Feedback continues to be very positive for doulas in our community, though most of us are working far less than we would like. In fact, there has been a significant lull in business lately for everyone, with some of the women having no births since early last summer. We are working on more marketing and getting ourselves out there.

In other doula news, I have one client due in April. I recently had an interview for one due in February, which I was secretly hoping I wouldn't get because it just feels like too much on my plate with finishing school and all. So I didn't get them, but they chose me as back-up. Perfect! I also had a contact about someone due in March, but referred them to other doulas because I don't want to take a birth on during the same month I think I will be defending. Beyond April, I have nothing though there are two hopefuls in May. Hoping to get some more births lined up.
